SPENDING $100/WEEK ON GROCERIES

by Sherri on June 1, 2009 · 6 commentsThis post may contain an affiliate link. Read my Disclosure Policy here

As some of you may know, I had set a goal to spend less than $100 per week on groceries for my family of 4, which includes a very hungry teenage son. I just added up my May receipts and am so excited…..I only spent $403!! Yippee!!! This is huge to me because I used to spend twice that. I now save us (or I really like to think of it as….”made us”) $400 a month. My next goal is to lower it to $75/week (or even less eventually). I have seen others do it and now I’m on a mission. It’s important to know, too, that I do not sacrifice quality. I like to cook well balanced meals for my family and that is another goal when shopping.

To start with, I use The Grocery Game at http://www.thegrocerygame.com/ . If you’re not familiar with it, it matches up sales and coupons at the store that is participating in your area. This lets me buy things at 60-70% off regular price, i.e I get 3 boxes of cereal for the price of 1.

Then I go to another store just down the road to buy all my other groceries because they are just cheaper on everything. It’s such a no flare, really crowded store but it is so much cheaper I just have to go. If you want to try The Grocery Game, they offer a 4 week trial for free to see if you like it. (Please use swchenery@hotmail.com as your referral if you don’t mind.) You do need to start stocking up on coupons, which only takes a few weeks.

Take advantage of using all the online printables at Coupons.com and others listed in my sidebar. I can’t say it enough..I love coupons and saving all this money! It is so worth it, it’s so fun and, believe me, it is not time consuming. If it was, then I would have a hard time doing it.

Do you have any tips for saving on groceries? I would love to hear.

My Walgreens Bargains this week

by Sherri on May 11, 2009This post may contain an affiliate link. Read my Disclosure Policy here

Oh, I had so mcuh fun at Walgreens tonight. I had not gone to get my newspaper (for coupons of course) so I decided to run down there after dinner tonight. I am lucky enough to have all three drug stores at one corner about 3 miles from my house. I’m hitting Rite-Aid tomorrow. There is lots of good stuff there this week too:) I love when there is that really surprise bargain that just makes it all worth while. My husband needed more Co Q 10 (which is very expensive stuff) and Walgreens has BOGO this week on Finest Vitamins. When I got to the vitamin aisle, there in front of me was Co Q 10 on clearance! Yeah! Was 11.95 a bottle for 30 tablets and it was on clearance for $3.19 and BOGO!! I always check the clearance sections when I am there and see if I have a coupon for it too. That is how you can really find some great priced stuff.
So what did I get for only $17.52 ——and saved $72.16:
6 bottles of CO Q 10 – $9.57
1 newspaper -$1
2 bottles of Palmolive – .49 each
3 boxes of Special K cereal – $1.67 each
1 Colgate Max Toothpaste – FREE
3 Reach toothbrushes – FREE
I hope you all get some fun stuff too.

My Grocery Bargains this week

by Sherri on May 5, 2009This post may contain an affiliate link. Read my Disclosure Policy here

I did pretty good this week on my grocery trip. I did stay under my goal of spending less than $100 a week. I spent $84.61 with $22.38 being in meat that was on sale. (again A LOT better than the $200-225 per week I used to spend) I have soooo much food stockpiled now that I might have to start a new challenge soon of seeing just how long all this food would last. Some of you have asked if I am compromising on meals and buying less healthy items and the answer is no. Anyone who knows my husband knows that that is a huge no-no. (He is in the process of getting his Masters in Nutrition so this only gets more and more important) Help us all:)
If you would like to join The Grocery Game too, you can get a free 4 week trial to see how you like it. Then it’s $10 every 8 weeks (that’s only $1.25/week) Here’s my list of what I got for only
