Homemade Taco Seasoning

Homemade Taco Seasoning

After looking at the ingredients of store bought taco seasoning which has several not so good ingredients, I decided it was time to make my own homemade taco seasoning.  No sodium, no partially hydrogenated soybean oils, no silicon dioxide, no ethoxyquin!   I am still learning SO much with choosing to clean eat as much as possible so I decided to do more research on some of those ingredients.

I googled  “Silicon Dioxide” and found that Silicon dioxide and silica gelare insecticides and acaracides are insecticides and acaracides, used in controlling insects, mites and ticks in a variety of indoor and outdoor sites. Oh my! Source EPA.gov.

And I also googled “ethoxyquin” and it is regulated by the FDA for its use as a preservative in animal feed, dehydrated crops and sorghum, and as a antioxidant for the preservation of color in the production of chili powder, paprika, and ground chili.  Whoa! Source EPA.gov.

So enough of that. I am only making my own from now on. Cheaper and healthier. Great for our taco nights and wonderful to make our favorite Layered Taco Dip with it too!

INGREDIENTS

6 TBSP chili powder

4 tsp ground cumin

3 tsp paprika

2 tsp garlic powder

2 tsp onion powder

1 tsp black pepper

1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

Homemade Taco Seasoning2

DIRECTIONS

Mix all ingredients together and store in an air tight container.  (I  actually used an old spice bottle I had saved)

Use 2 TBSP with 1 pound of meat.
